有时候论文写太长，超过了期刊常规论文的篇幅，超过的页面需要收取版面费，对于银行存款从来没有超过三位数的穷博士生来说，缴纳版面费不得肉痛才怪。

所以，SCI初稿保持简洁很重要。

以下是4条保持SCI初稿简洁的技巧（修改稿也用得着）：

1) 注意以“there is a previous study on,” “it has been reported that,”开头的句子或类似的短语。这类句子应附有参考引文，这使得上述短语显得多余。这些短语可都以删除，只留下引文。

例如：

原文为: It has been reported that the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease increases with age (Rogue et al., 2004). (17 words)

可以修改为: It has been reported that The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease increases with age (Rogue et al., 2004). (12 words)

2) 把一些产品名称移到括号，通过省去介词来缩短句子。

例如：

原文为: The samples were analyzed on the ABC spectrophotometer (Zhejiang Scientific, Zhejiang, China) to determine the xyz values. (17 words)

可以修改为: The samples were analyzed on the ABC spectrophotometer to determine the xyz values (ABC spectrometer; Zhejiang Scientific, Zhejiang, China). (15 words)

3) 去名词化，也就是说，使用名词形式而不是动词形式，是导致句子冗长的一个重要因素，所以要注意这些。在下面的例子中，用“diagnosed”代替“diagnosis”可以缩短句子。

例如：

原文为: A diagnosis of cancer was made on the basis of the findings. (12 words)

可以修改为:A diagnosis of Cancer was diagnosed made on the basis of the findings. (9 words)

4) 在“结果（results）”部分中，避免列出每个数组的单个数值，然后是统计显著性的数值。相反，可以将每个数组的单个数值和统计显著性的数值一起放在括号内。

例如：

原文为: The protein level was 5 mg in Group A, while it was 3 mg in Group B, the difference being statistically significant (p < 0.05). (25 words)

可以修改为:

The difference in the protein level was 5 mg in between Ggroups A and B, while it was 3 mg in Group b, the difference being statistically was significant (5 mg vs. 3 mg, p < 0.05). (21 words)
