项目介绍

This project aims to reveal the unequal impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental well-being of the elderly population (those aged 65 and above) in Hong Kong, based on their ethnocultural backgrounds—ethnic minorities and ethnic Chinese.

This project entails different investigative activities, including:

1) conducting a comparative examination of the psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the ethnic-Chinese elderly population in comparison to those of Indian, Pakistani, and Nepalese descent;

2) examining the degree of inter-ethnic variation in the unequal impacts of COVID-19 on the mental well-being of ethnic-minority elderly populations from socio-economic and social capital perspectives;

3) identifying sources of emotional resilience and social/well-being support among elderly population of ethnic Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, and Nepalese origin, with a particular emphasis on their social support systems, and;

4) disseminating the findings to relevant stakeholders in Hong Kong
