Authors are required to pay either the publication fee or the open access fee, not both.
Publication charges
The Journal levies a flat publication fee for each accepted manuscript. These fees support AFS publications as well as AFS’s broader mission and programs to improve the conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems by advancing fisheries and aquatic science and promoting the development of fisheries professionals.
Publication fee: $1,500
Comment publication fee: $750
There are no publication fees for responses to comments, book reviews, errata, or in memoriam pieces.
Open access charges
If authors select an open access license, then authors must pay the open access charge or request to use an institutional agreement to pay the open access charge through our licensing and payment portal, SciPris.
Non-member open access charges: $3,500
AFS member open access charges: $2,800
Member discounts
AFS members who confirm funding is not available may request a full or partial waiver of the $1,500 publication fee. Requests should be made following acceptance. A limited number of waivers are available and will be granted on an as-needed basis.
AFS members will receive an automatic 20% discount off the open access fee (see above).
